As an interpreter, credentials are important; certification is even required to work in some interpreting markets. Many interpreters fail high-stakes exams for various reasons: not understanding what skills are tested during the exam, not preparing enough or in the right ways, or making avoidable mistakes on the day of the exam. In this webinar, we will first look at why so many interpreters fail exams, then at how to create a training plan for a court, conference, or medical interpreting exam, then at how to set yourself up for success on exam day. We will wrap up by actually practicing some of these exam prep techniques.

Learning objectives/workshop plan:

Identifying reasons why so many interpreters fail interpreting exams
Looking at the structure and scoring system for various types of interpreting exams
Learning how to create a training plan for any type of interpreting exam
Learning how much practice (in terms of hours) is needed to pass a typical interpreting exam
✓ Identifying interpreting exam pitfalls and how to improve your chances of success on the hardest skills, such as numbers, and fast speakers
Learning what can go wrong on exam day, and how to avoid making preventable mistakes
